Available Trim Levels in the 2017 Explorer

The Ford Explorer has five different trim levels for you to choose from: the base Ford Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. Each of these models are outstanding, but the higher trim levels contain added standard features.

 
  • Ford Explorer - The base model features a roof rack with black side rails, LED taillights, cloth seats, SYNC, cargo hooks and net, leather wrapped shift knob and many more items.
  • Ford Explorer XLT - The seats of the XLT are upgraded to a unique cloth and it also includes: Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start, Reverse Sensing System, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with five-way controls, audio controls, and cruise control.
  • Ford Explorer Limited - The Limited trim has added perforated leather-trimmed first and second row seats with climate controlled seats in the first row, Dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, a media bin with a USB and 12-volt SD card reader, Premium Sony Audio System with 12 speakers, Voice-Activated Navigation System, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, SYNC 3, remote start, and much more.
  • Ford Explorer Sport - Besides an over-all sporty design, the Ford Explorer Sport trim also includes: perforated leather-trimmed seats with a red accent stitching, blackout LED taillamps, black high gloss liftgate, mirrors, and roof rack side rails, and a unique EXPLORER badge.

  • Ford Explorer Platinum -  The top trim of the Ford Explorer has added "Platinum" embroidery multi-contour driver and passenger leather seats, a Premium 500-watt Sound from Sony with Clear Phase and Live Acoustics sound system, Platinum-branded floor mats, auto high beams, a unique satin chrome finished grille, and much more.

Performance Capabilities

The base Ford Explorer model as well as the XLT trim contains a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine while the Limited adds a 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine that provides a more fuel efficient drive. The Sport and Platinum models also add an EcoBoost engine, but amp up the power to a 3.5-liter engine. Each trim level comes with Electronic Power Assist Steering, Hill Start Assist, and Trailer Sway Control, but only the Sport and Platinum trims have Hill Descent Control, Intelligent 4WD, and Terrain Management System standard (these are available to be added on to any of the other trims for an extra cost).

Innovative Safety Features

The safety features that come standard in the Ford Explorer are designed to keep both you and your back seat passengers safe. Such features as the AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Belt-Minder, a plethora of airbags, Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children, Safety Canopy System, SOS Post-Crash Alert System, and Traction Control are just a few of the many helpful and potentially lifesaving devices that are included in every Ford Explore trim. The top trims have also added multiple technological safety features, like the Blind Spot Information System and enhanced park assist, which help you to be more aware of oncoming collisions.
